Tulips in the Tulip Museum by buck82
It’s always a little strange coming back to a blog after a couple of days away – sort of like slinking back into the room at a conference – so I just want to say a quick thank you to all those who commented on my post about the Women’s Prize for Fiction longlist announcement yesterday. It was great to see so many different viewpoints in the comments on the actual reach of a prize’s longlist, what a long longlist means for readers and critics specifically and literary merit vs commercial appeal. I know some readers are completely uninterested in prizes (and for years I didn’t really pay attention to them) but these days I find them fascinating, part entertainment to watch and part social barometer to monitor.
Anyways, after combating both a laptop crash and evil, vile flu, I am back to daily posts. Well, after a small flurry of catch up posts today and tomorrow. :) I want to tell you about the wonderful author I went to see speak at Waterstones Leeds the other night, I’ve picked my first title from the mighty book jar (and it’s definitely a challenge), I’ve got some library loot to share with you and I even have a couple of book reviews up my sleeve too…
