A Century of Books: A challenge to read one book for every year between 1900-2000.
I’ve mentioned this in a couple of posts recently but it really deserves its own round up page here so…
(Quick recap for those who missed it: Back in September 2011 Simon over at Stuck in a Book created this challenge for 2012. I’d belated signed up in the summer of 2012 and have set myself the end date of 31DEC2013. I’ve decided to include any fiction choice that fits a particular year and some non-fiction – provided the non-fiction is in some way zeitgeist-y and helps me feel like I understand the period a little better.)

Although the challenge started with Simon at Stuck in a Book (link takes you to his own completed century page), there’s a handful of other people now trying their hand at this and I thought it’d be nice to link to their round up page/tagged posts here:
Claire at The Captive Reader (completed challenge in 2012)
Thomas at My Porch
Geranium Cat’s Bookshelf
Patty at A Tale of Three Cities
Cat at Tell Me A Story
Pam at Travellin’ Penguin
Bonnie at Bonnie’s Books
Danielle at A Work In Progress (starting in 2013)
(If I missed you off my list it’s an oversight – just leave a comment and I’ll add you!)

Gosh, every year?! I would fail! Well done you for attempting this!

I have one of these going right now – before I realized it was an official challenge.

*grin* Must have been fun to find out you had a headstart!

Thanks for the links (will have to check them out and see which books others are reading!) and for linking to me! :) It should be fun and I am looking forward to adding my first book to my list! I have read a novella, but I think I want to only use novels or nonfiction–full length books, but maybe I will change my mind later! ;) Did you like The Pumpkin Eater? Sort of quirky, but I did like it and Penelope Mortimer in general–want to read more of her work!

Hi Danielle! I did like The Pumpkin Eater, it was far more ‘twisty’ than I was expecting and left me feeling very sympathetic to Mortimer since it seems to have been mostly autobiographical. I have another of her books here but it’s quite dark subject matter – cancer – so I’ve been a bit slower to read it. Can’t wait to see what you pick for your challenge, whatever length it is!

Well done Alex – I admire your gumption and you’ve read some great books so far – quite a few of which I fancy tracking down myself ;)

Remind me of that when it is November and I am dashing about like the White Rabbit squeaking about being late and needing to read something from 1908, anything from 1908!

Happy New Year! Thanks for adding the links – nice to know who else is battling through the century. Your progress looks about the same as mine and I’m hoping to finish by the end of this year too.
